Sunway Medical Centre Damansara honoured for community health initiatives at Healthcare Asia Awards 2026

The hospital implemented 64 community health programmes, delivering screenings, education, and preventive care outreach for more than 7,000 individuals across Malaysia.
Sunway Medical Centre Damansara received the Health and Wellness Initiative of the Year - Malaysia at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026. The recognition acknowledged the hospital’s community health programmes that expanded public access to screenings, health education, and preventive care activities conducted across multiple locations.
In 2025, the hospital organised 64 community engagements, including free screenings, health roadshows, corporate wellness programmes, and specialist-led talks that reached more than 7,000 people. These initiatives focused on early detection and health awareness across different age groups and community segments.
One of the first programmes of the year was a Free Bone Mineral Density scan campaign for senior citizens. The initiative screened 200 elderly participants to raise awareness of osteoporosis and promote early diagnosis. The campaign carried a programme value of RM100,000 and generated RM80,000 in public relations value.
Community outreach expanded through the Wellness on Wheels mobile clinic programme, which travelled to several locations across the Klang Valley over two weeks. More than 1,500 participants attended the programme, which provided health screenings and consultations outside the hospital setting. Public engagement also included the “Coffee and Tea Unwind with Doctors” sessions, where specialists spoke with visitors about health topics in informal community spaces.
Large public events also formed part of the outreach strategy. The Every Step Every Age Health Carnival at IOI Damansara Mall drew close to 3,500 visitors and offered health screenings, specialist talks, and a public CPR workshop. The event also featured health screening packages offered at a 30% discount, resulting in 110 packages purchased by attendees.
Additional programmes focused on cardiovascular and metabolic health. The Feel The Beat of Health roadshow conducted 550 complimentary electrocardiogram screenings with cardiologist consultations at Starling Mall. Free glucose testing and endocrinologist consultations were also provided to promote awareness of heart health and diabetes.
Senior-focused programmes also formed part of the initiatives. Fall prevention sessions and dementia awareness talks reached more than 600 elderly residents in the Taman Tun Dr Ismail community. Other activities included diabetes awareness talks, basic life support training, and public health screenings organised with community partners and local organisations.
Healthcare Asia Awards is an awards programme focused on acknowledging exceptional hospitals across Asia that redefine the standards of excellence in the healthcare industry. It proudly shines a spotlight on Asian hospitals that consistently go beyond conventional boundaries to provide top-tier patient care and have a lasting impact on their local communities.
